My Spiritual Anthems

Music has always, always played an important role in my life - from childhood 'till this very moment. And as a worshiper, the words to songs are vitally important to me. I sing as if I were praying or declaring the words over my life, and I do so with all of my heart.

If I had to describe my spiritual journey through songs, these would be some of the major ones.  If you click on the titles, it will take you to YouTube so that you can hear the songs if you aren't familiar with them.  I share the anthems of my life with you.

My Wilderness Journey:
(Although this is a secular song, God used this song to minister mightily to me. I was broken hearted, battled scarred, and very lonely when I first heard this song. As I would sing it (sometimes at the top of my lungs), I changed the words slightly to the spiritual meaning that I meant them to be. The "strongman" in Scripture refers to the demonic, so to me, to forgive and forget causes Satan to be left "crying"; the "Someone" and "Love" is Jesus; "heroes" are God's children. I envisioned it as if Jesus were singing it to me. So, I'm printing the words as I sang them.)

by Cher

When you're standing on the edge of nowhere
There's only One Way Up
So your heart's got to go there
Through the darkest night
See The Light shine bright
When heroes fall, in love or war
They live forever

{Chorus:}
This is a song - for the lonely
Can you hear me tonight?
For the broken hearted, battle scarred
I'll be by your side
And this is a song - for the lonely
When your dreams don't come true
Can you hear this prayer?
'Cause Someone's there for you

Well, Love don't need a reason
He can pick you up
Or leave you bleeding
I've seen the strongman cry
I know the reason why
Because I forgive, because I forget
And just keep believing

{Chorus:}

So let it find you
Wherever you may go
I'm right beside you
You don't have to look no more
You don't have to look no more, oh no

{Chorus}

It's gonna be alright
It's gonna be alright
It's gonna be alright

This is a song
A song for the lonely
And that's not you only
Through the darkest night
You're gonna see The Light

Can you hear this prayer?
Someone's there

This is a song - for the lonely
Can you hear me tonight?
For the broken hearted, battle scarred
I'll be by your side
And this is a song
For the lonely
