January Rest

Come to Me all you who labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest.            ~ Jesus Christ, as recorded in Matthew 11:28

See His outstretched Hand? Our Jesus bids us to come. What a welcoming Scripture after all the busyness of this season; the weariness, horrors, and concerns 2012 left us with.

"Come. Come. Come" is His loving offer. Our Master gives us the antidote for mind, soul, body fatigue. It's Him.

But, do we hear Him calling to us?

Man seems run everywhere but to His lap. We carry our burdens like a trophy upon our shoulders.

Why is that? When all He wants to do is give us a reprieve? To refresh us, give rest to our weary souls, and revive us.

We run to our friends, therapists, our step programs, and prescription bottles. Everywhere but to Jesus.

Why is He not the first one we run to?

A new calendar is now up on our walls. A new day has dawned. A new year has begun, which will only hold more stressors - in one way or another - for us.

May this January mark our decision to run to Jesus first.

Let us just come into the Everlasting Arms of Love; the Everlasting Arms that can actually do something about all that weighs us down.

Snuggle in. Snuggle down. Get comfy. And REST.

Allow yourself to physically, mentally, emotionally rest in the Bosom of our Lord. Picture yourself curled up and resting in His Hand. Picture His Wisdom and healing embrace enveloping you; His forgiving nature flowing over you, through you; His Love soothing your concerns; His comforting Voice speaking Words of Life to your weary soul.

He, Alone, has the ability to restore and revive. He, Alone, can give us His peace when we need it most.

Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. ~ Jesus Christ, as recorded in John 14:27

Peace that can leave us as carefree as if floating. No striving, no panicking, just resting in the buoyancy of the Living Waters that flows from within.

May we all have a restful day. A restful January. A restful lifestyle.

Because of Him and Unto Him,

Oh I have missed you. Good post for the start of a new year. I was thinking on Paul telling us to "leave all those thing behind us and press toward the high calling...of which there is no higher calling then being a child of God.

The Lord recently spoke to my heart about the rest He has us in now. By that I mean our ministry is not a burdensome one, it's encouraging. But we both struggle in not filling every minute with "ministry". God is such wisdom, we are exactly where we need to be.

Again so glad you are back...Love Betty

A good reminder to seek first the kingdom of heaven and all things will be appointed unto us. Happy New Year. God bless.

Excellent reminder. Far too often we hit the ground running in Jan with endeavoring to "Do better". Instead, if we would seek God first, all the rest would fall into place. Matt 6:33
